After having seen the success of the Cinedoc Cyclades Islands Initiative, in partnership with Anemon Productions, we initiated Movies to Cycladic Movement as a CPF-led program to expand the outreach of the Cinedoc Initiative and enable more audiences to get involved in environmental protection in the Cyclades area and beyond.
The greatest challenge we repeatedly face as environmental activists is in ensuring that our environmental concerns and demands remain relevant and discussed in the public dialogue. Put simply, we are constantly faced with a challenge of awareness, something which remains a key element of our work at CPF.
Having seen the outright success of the Cinedoc Initiative (approximately 2200 people, including around 400 students, got involved on seven islands of the Cyclades and in Attica) we decided to plan and implement the Movies to Cycladic Movement program in 2023 with the help of the Hellenic Initiative.
The idea is to couple screenings of environmental documentaries with informative seminars which inspire audiences, as well as actively engage and train them in environmental protection and monitoring of the Cycladic sea and land.
What does the project deliver in practice?
Combining screenings of fascinating environmental documentaries, Q&As, and virtual seminars to discuss these films, this program initiates creative spaces in which to raise awareness and come up with solutions through discussion and passion for film!
If you speak Greek and would like to make a tangible change through our Movies to Cycladic Movement program, you can join our thematic environmental webinars. If not, please register εδώ to access the webinars we have created for English-speaking residents and visitors of the Cycladic Islands in Greece.
If you are a not-for-profit entity based in the Cyclades, you are kindly invited to host screenings of the three inspiring environmental movies offered by the CPF on your respective islands. If this is of interest to you, please fill in this form to join our local allies.

A bit about the organisations
Anemon Productions began the Cinedoc Cyclades Initiative in 2020, when CPF began funding their project as a Grant. Anemon are a production company dedicated to producing documentaries, educational programmes and cross-media projects as a catalyst for discussion, inspiration and impact.
The company was founded in 2003, in Athens, Greece, bringing together the expertise of Greek filmmakers, producers and media professionals. Special focus is given to projects promoting inter-cultural and historical understanding across Europe, human rights and sustainable living.
Anemon recently produced the documentary Mediterranean: Life Under Siege, which has been screened in the Cyclades, Athens and London, in partnership with the CPF. This landmark project follows a young sperm whale, a monk seal, a loggerhead sea turtle, a family of storks, a sea eagle and an island cat; the protagonists of the film and of the Mediterranean world alike.
“Filmed over the course of two years in 12 different countries and drawing on the expertise of 50 scientists from across the world, this is a documentary saga on a scale never-before-seen that breathes life into the challenges facing an endangered paradise on the brink.” – Anemon Productions.
The Hellenic Initiative was founded in 2012 by members of the global Greek and philhellene communities who were compelled to respond to the worsening economic crisis and inspired to help shape Greece’s long-term recovery.
Over time, the Hellenic Initiative has come to invest funds in projects which respond to crises adjacent to the economic one, such as the environmental crisis.
Before the Summer we completed two out of our three planned webinars, which form a key aspect of the Movies to Movement program, covering the issues of Wildlife and the Sea. The next Land-orientated webinar will follow in the Autumn.
20 screenings tool place in 6 islands in the Summer in Amorgos, Antiparos, Ios, Kimolos, Paros and Syros! More screenings are planned in Autumn.
We are very grateful for the help of The Hellenic Initiative, who kindly donated € 23,000 for the roll-out of the MCM program in 2023.
