The challenge
The Cyclades have been sites of resilient agriculture for thousands of years. The Livadi farmlands in Tinos are an excellent example of this balanced relationship between people and nature, as its thriving agroecological way of life clocks over two millennia. Tourism, resource depletion, unsustainable agricultural practices, rising temperatures, and water scarcity disrupt this delicate balance threatening the existence of the cultural landscape of the islands, including the last remaining rural farming communities.
The solution
OTONOM’s Film Seed Festival is born out of the necessity of proposing a different direction to the abovementioned threats, creating a space of open dialogue for new relationships between culture, agriculture, self-sufficiency, solidarity and resilience.
The project involves the local farming community, scientists with expertise in Environmental Engineering and Entomology, the local community of Tinos, and film directors and producers of films and documentaries that will be screened at the festival.
The festival will be accompanied and preceded by educational workshops aimed at linking local agricultural production with environmental science, sustainable technology and informing everyone about the role of microscopic fauna and insects in the well-being of the local environment and the potential of insects and microbial organisms to produce bio-energy and bio-fuels, to rehabilitate soils after intensive cultivation and to help soils retain water.
This year CPF is proud to be among its supporters.
Activities
Two educational training will take place with the participation of about 50 people of all ages.
The workshops will be part of the Festival process, where a minimum of 10 local farmers and stockbreeders, representatives of the rural community are expected to participate.
While at the same time over 300 attendees will take part in Festival activities.
