The challenge

Plastic pollution poses a significant environmental threat to the Cyclades and the Greek seas. Marine animals are in danger as they can suffocate on plastic materials or ingest them, mistaking plastic for food. At the same time, plastics break down into microplastics, which enter the food chain when consumed by small organisms like plankton. This contamination affects larger marine animals and even humans through seafood consumption. Plastics present similar negative effects to marine flora as plastic waste in coral reefs, seagrass beds, and other sensitive ecosystems.

Αvoiding single use plastics, disposing of them properly so they don’t end up in the sea, but also removing plastics from the sea are key challenges that must be addressed immediately with the contribution of all.

The solution

CPF invests continuously and over time in education and awareness raising of local populations in the Cyclades islands. In this context, CPF supports All for Blue to implement trainings in schools and organize coastal and underwater clean-ups in Mykonos, promoting the importance of a plastic-free environment.

Activities

Αll for blue will use existing educational material already developed in the context of other actions, adapting it to the island and the target population.
About 1000 students from the primary schools of Mykonos are expected to participate in the educational activities and clean-ups, while several other local residents are expected to participate and raise awareness around the message of a plastic-free island.

About the Grantee

All For Blue  is an environmental non-profit organization, established in Mykonos, aiming to protect the marine ecosystem, inform the public, and inspire the new generation, through ocean conservation educational activities and seminars implemented at international level.

What you can do

  • Look for ways to reduce the use of plastic, reuse and recycle as much as you can.
  • Every time you go to the beach, you can collect five pieces of plastic. Then you can make a post to invite others to do the same. Tag us #CPF, if you want to.
