Women for Plastic-Free Cyclades

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021, the Federation of Women’s Associations Daughters of the Cyclades and the Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF) announced a new strategic partnership to strengthen the role of Cycladic women as timeless ambassadors of environmental protection and sustainability in their local communities on the islands.

The collaboration began with an online marketplace where we aimed to raise money to purchase reusable utensils (plates, glasses, cutlery) which could be donated to the 16 members of the Federation of Women’s Associations to replace hundreds of disposable plastics commonly used at local celebrations and gatherings annually. The ultimate goal of our new project is to raise awareness, change the culture, and highlight good practices that the islands have adopted over time.

The Cycladic woman writes Manolis Glezos, “Existed from the earliest ancient times, as shown by the Cycladic female idols, the womb of life and the cradle of the Cycladic existence”.  From this symbolic understanding of the real, everyday woman of the 21st century, we can see that Cycladic women are at the heart of the sustainability of our islands; sensitizing the local communities and highlighting the intergenerational approach that must distinguish timeless challenges, such as protection of the environment.

This project organized online training sessions for the women of the Cyclades to become real influencers in their communities!

This CPF program has now been completed.
