The challenge

Women in the Cyclades play a crucial and often overlooked role as timeless ambassadors of environmental protection and sustainability in their local communities on the islands. They often serve as cultural stewards, preserving traditional knowledge, practices, and values related to environmental conservation and sustainability. The need to empower and support them to run sustainable initiatives locally is crucial.

The solution

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2021, the Federation of Women’s Associations Daughters of the Cyclades and the Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF) announced a new strategic partnership to strengthen the role of Cycladic women as timeless ambassadors of environmental protection and sustainability in their local communities on the islands.

The collaboration began with an online marketplace where we raised money to purchase reusable utensils (plates, glasses, cutlery) for the 16 members of the Federation of Women’s Associations to replace hundreds of disposable plastics commonly used at local celebrations and gatherings annually. Through this program we aimed to raise awareness and highlight good practices that the islands have adopted over time.
