The CPF Steering Committee CPF selected recently the first four grants, to support within 2018, following its strategic principle to empower local partners with capacity and willingness to engage in conservation and sustainability, as well as experts ready to build capacity and inspire local conservation communities. To this end, the CPF is proud to support:
- APANO MERIA, the Social Cooperative Enterprise (SCE) for the establishment, management and protection of the environmental park of Apano Meria on Syros island, to conclude a study on the full clarification of the ownerships on historical footpaths leading to sites of geological significance, in the context of the ongoing efforts by the SCE for establishing the same area as an environmental and geological park of UNESCO;
- ALKYONE, the Aegean Wildlife Hospital which is based on Paros, to create a ‘first aid’ educational briefcase, consisting of leaflets, posters, books and DVD’s concerning the first aid support to injured wild animals and ways of safe and quick transportation to the proper facilities, and to offer them free of charge to all the schools, municipalities, forestry offices and coast guard offices in Cycladic islands;
- MOm, the Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal, to create and disseminate broadly a short video raising awareness about the richness of the marine and coastal biodiversity of the Cyclades island complex focusing on the existence of important reproductive populations of the Mediterranean monk seal, the only seal species in the Mediterranean and the rarest seal on the planet; and
- WWF Greece, for the continuation and empowerment of the ‘Consortium of the Stakeholders’, which was created during the implementation of a LIFE Cyclades project and will pave the way for incorporating the conservation measures and zoning proposed by the Consortium into management plans for Gyaros Marine Protected Area (PMA) approved by the new single management body for Cyclades complex.
The above grants of a total amount of 13,500 euros represent CPF’s commitment to work hard, together with local stakeholders and experts, to support the management and development of the Cycladic area in an environmentally friendly perspective. To this end, the CPF will keep on raising money from people all over the world, as well as from local individuals and businesses that care and rely on the Cycladic island’s future.
